My Diet - Day 14

I am very proud of myself for not succumbing to the food and drink at the party last night, can't say the same for my OH as he had a large white bap filled with pork & stuffing (Hog Roast) plus he had several cans of John Smiths. But hopefully 1 day's lapse won't be too detrimental to his weight loss.

It was lovely having the Tandoori Chicken & Salad takeaway yesterday but the restaurant didn't open til 5.30pm and we were meeting my cousin to go to the party at 7pm. I think the food arrived by 6.15pm so I did feel a little rushed which in a way spoilt it a bit.

Sunday 30th September 2012

Today's menu

Breakfast: 2 Fried Eggs (using spray oil) with 3 slices of Ham (in my case also fried)

Lunch: 2 Large Slices Roast Beef sprinkled with rosemary & chives acompanied with Dukan Mayo

Dinner: Baked Turkey Meatballs and Chocolate Mousse for dessert

Snack: Chocolate Mousse

The chocolate mousse was so delicious, the other day when I made it, I just had to make it again.

I have chosen not to take my walk today, I planned to walk at least an extra 5 minutes each day this week to accommodate Sunday and I managed it, so a rest day today, listening to John Lennon & Paul McCartney music :)  oh and Elvis (my OH is now playing his music).

I feel really good, my clothes fit me nicely again, I feel happy, no indigestion for 2 weeks now, no headaches, no bloating I'm actually enjoying this diet, I seriously don't feel restricted, eating protein every other day doesn’t bother me as I know I'll be eating vegetables on the in-between days.

Well that's the end of week 2 - Weigh Day tomorrow.

My Diet - Day 13

Took an early walk today as the weather was beautiful with not a cloud in the sky. My OH came with me today which was pleasant to have someone to chat to, we were out for 37.15 mins and walked 2.02 miles. I don't know how many calories my OH burnt off but apparently I burnt off 161.

I weighed myself this morning, have decided to weigh myself after every protein only day, and again was pleased with what I saw.

Weight: 9st 13.5lbs

Weight Loss: 1.25lbs

Total Weight Lost: 8.5lbs

Saturday 29th September 2012

Today's menu

Breakfast: Fat-free Vanilla Yoghurt with Oat Bran, Cup of Tea

Lunch: Creamy Tomato Soup

Dinner: Indian Takeaway of Tandoori Chicken & Salad

Have a party to attend tonight, not sure if its going to be a temptation or not. I'm not a big alcohol drinker and will be driving so not having alcohol will not be a problem for me, I'm not sure if I can say the same for my OH. As for any food that may be offered, so long as its meat or veg I can manage, but you rarely get that with party food, so we shall see, hence the Indian Takeaway before we go out.

My Diet - Day 12

I made a slight change to my walking plan today, I was intending to do it during my 3pm break at work, but instead went out early in the morning before I started work. I didn't want to get to later in the day and something come up which would mean I didn't get to go out. So ... my walk today was 2.2 miles burning 169 calories over 37.41minutes.

I've probaly burnt off more than that with all the work I've done today, my back is aching - argghh!!

I didn't weigh myself this morning, I resisted the urge.

So ... todays menu

Friday 28th September 2012

Breakfast: Vanilla Oat Bran Porridge, Cup of tea

Lunch: Scotch eggs

Dinner: Grilled Salmon with herbs

Snack: Chocolate Mousse

Almost ate it before I got a picture, I am quite proud of this mousse, I've never made one before, and it came out brilliant, tasted delicious and I will definitely be making that again.

Another PV day tomorrow, but the tricky part is I'm off to a party in the evening, so really hope I am not tempted to eat wrong foods or drink alcohol. I am ordering an Indian takeaway to eat before the party, probably, tandoori chicken & salad, so that I am not hungry when I go out.

We shall see how that pans out ...

My Diet - Day 11

Another PV (protein & vegetable) day today, which is welcome - I do like my vegetables.

I did weight myself this morning - couldn't help myself. My weight has dropped 1.25lbs but I do realise, now that I am on the Cruise Phase of the diet, this may fluctuate throughout the week depending on whether I am no a P or PV day.

So today :-

Weight: 10st 0.75lbs

Weight Loss: 1.25lbs

Total Weight Lost: 7.25lbs

My 1st half a stone lost, I am very pleased with that and I am noticing that I am looking a little thinner.  I feel good, I am managing my walk each day without feeling tired, do I have more energy? I don't know, I always walk a lot anyway so I do have a fair amount of energy normally, I will have a think on that one and see in a few days if I feel more energetic.

Thursday 27th September 2012

Menu for today

Breakfast: 2 x poached eggs, Ham slices, tomato, cup of tea

Lunch: Shepherd Pie (left over from Tuesday)

Dinner: Chicken Casserole

Snack: Low Fat Yoghurt with Oat Bran

I went for my walk today straight from finishing work, the weather was, again, beautiful, just like a summers day. I managed 1.98 miles in 35.34 minutes, burning 156 calories, then I took the roof back on my car and drove home with the wind in my hair, it was glorious.

My walk will be later in the day tomorrow as I wont have a break from work til 3pm, I'm not keen on afternoon walks, I am more of a morning person but I shall endeavour to do my 30-35mins.

I have cooked Scotch Eggs for tomorrows lunch, I do hope they taste nice as its all I'm taking for my lunch tomorrow, I don't want to start looking around the local shop to see if there is anything tasty I can eat that fits in with my diet on a Protein only day.

My Diet - Day 10

It seems odd not to weigh myself in the morning after doing it every day for a week, feels sort of wrong, but I'll get used to it.

Yesterday was lovely having vegetables with the meals but today is back to a P (protein only) day.

Wednesday 26th September 2012

Menu for today:

Breakfast: Scrambled Egg & Crispy Ham, Cup of tea

Lunch: Grilled Trout with Herbes De Provence

Dinner: Garlic King Prawns

Snack, Oat Bran Cookies

I was going to have poached egg for brekkers but had 4 egg yolks left over from dishes I'd cooked where it only required the egg white, so thought I'd use them up this morning & had scrambled instead.

I took my walk just after I'd finished with my morning clients whilst I was in the momentum of working hard, if I'd sat down at that point I'm not sure I would have got up for a while. The walk today took 35 minutes 21 seconds and burnt 159 calories over 2.01 miles. Although its a walk I do frequently I decided to walk through the park on my way back, for a change of scenery.

Everything on the menu was eaten today, however not all by me. I do not like prawns at all. I did attempt one, I even tried frying a couple but I still couldn't eat them. My OH was unconcerned as he loves tiger prawns, as does my daughter who has nabbed the leftovers for a prawn mayo sandwich tomorrow. However I did buy much larger trout fillets this week and so my grilled trout with herbs was quite substantial ... for now.

I have still had no adverse effects and have to say I don't anticipate any now. Looking forward to my chicken casserole tomorrow - ooh that reminds me I'd better get the chicken out of the freezer ....

My Diet - Day 9

I shall not be weighing myself every morning now that I am on the Cruise Phase of the diet, maybe once or twice a week. However I did this morning just to check that my weight had remained the same, which it had.

Compared to yesterday's weather it is like summer again today, so I went for my walk early (8.30am). I am trying to do 35mins rather than 30 a day, so that the extra minutes will add up to at least 30 by Sunday, just in case I don't get time for a walk at all. Today my walk was 2.09 miles and took 35.58 minutes, burning 166 calories.

My menu for my first PV (protein & vegetable) day is:

Breakfast: Lemon Zest Pancakes, Cup of tea

Lunch: Salmon Fishcakes

Dinner: Shepherds Pie with Mashed Butternut Squash (the recipe is for Shepherd's Pie Stuffed Pumpkin/Squash but I decided to mash it & lay it on top of the mince like a traditional shepherds pie)

Snack: Chocolate Milkshake

As I expected the pancakes were lovely as were the fishcakes, will definitely make both again.

And ... the shepherds pie was heaven. Felt like I was eating a good substantial meal, with carrots, courgettes, onions & butternut squash, yummm.

Back to protein only tomorrow.

My Diet, Week 2 - Day 8

I made a mistake on my blog yesterday. When I weighed myself yesterday morning it said 10st 2lbs and straight away I got it in my head that I hadn't lost any weight. Then I wrote my blog stating that no weight had been lost, but when I checked it to the previous days blog I had my weight at 10st 2.5lb. Silly I know, but rather than weigh myself again I assumed that my weight must have been 10st 2.5lbs rather than 10st 2lbs so I altered it. I was thinking about it all day and deep down I was sure my weight was the lower. Having now weighed myself this morning and it is 10st 2lbs, I am convinced now that I was correct.

So my weight for yesterday (Sunday 23rd September 2012) was:

Weight: 10st 2lbs

Weight Loss: .5lb

Total Weight Lost: 6lbs

Monday 24th September 2012

Now I come to today.  Week 2 - day 8 of my weight loss plan.  As I have just said my weight this morning is unchanged from my "true" weight yesterday so no pounds lost.  My OH has also not lost weight from yesterday and that is 2 days running for him so I am moving us both to the Cruise Phase today - starting with a PP (Pure Protein) day - which is the same as the Attack Phase. Tomorrow will be nice as it will involve some "permitted" vegetables.

Weight: 10st 2lbs

Weight Lost: 0lbs

Total Weight Lost: 6lbs

Todays menu is:

Breakfast: 1 fried egg (low cal spray oil) & 3 dry fried wafer thin turkey

Lunch: Crispy ham, Low fat yoghurt

Dinner: Mustard Salmon

Snack: Oat Bran Ricotta Hotcakes served with a little low fat quark

Every day, so far, I have had no problem drinking 1.5litres of water and with other permitted drinks I am nearer to 2lts of fluid a day.

Even though it was rotten autumn weather today, rain & wind, I did get out for my walk. Now that I am on the Cruise Phase I need to do 30mins exercise a day. My Walk today was 37.51mins burning 162 calories over a distance of 2 miles.

Mmmmmm ... the Mustard Salmon was delicious will definitely have that again & I do love the hotcakes too, makes a lovely dessert.

I am still feeling no ill-effects from the diet, probably because I always drink lots of water, but I am happy that tomorrow I shall have some veggies with my meals.

My Diet - Day 7

This is the last day of the 1st week and there was no weight loss this morning. I have been expecting this as I understand the Attack Phase lasts for between 2 - 10 day and my weight loss has been decreasing. If there is no loss tomorrow then I will start the Cruise Phase. My OH's weight also remained the same as yesterday, which is good as keeping to the same phase in the diet makes life a lot simpler when it comes to not tempting the other with the wrong foods.

Weight: 10st 2.5lb

Weight loss: 0lbs

Total weight Lost: 5.5lbs

Sunday 23rd September 2012

Todays menu

Breakfast: 2 Soft Boiled Eggs with Ham & Turkey Crispies, Cup of Tea

Lunch: Left over Chicken Breast (from yesterday), Cup of Tea

Dinner: Turkey Curry, plus Cinnamon Oat Bran Pancakes & Vanilla fat-free  yoghurt for dessert.

I was actually intending to have grilled salmon for dinner, but I forgot to get it out of the freezer, so decided to have the curry as the turkey breasts were already defrosted, and I have to say probably more filling.

I haven't gotten out for a walk today, which I knew I'd struggle with, hence adding extra minutes to my walks this week, but this was really due to it raining all day and not lack of inspiration. If I hadn't done enough minutes this week I would have gone out regardless of the weather.

My footie team lost today and it would be so easy to indulge in comfort food but I have not been tempted at all or felt cravings for anything ... yet.

I am determined to lose weight and reach my goal with this diet plan and determination is the key thing when losing weight no matter what plan you are following. I am hoping to have reached my goal by my birthday in November, lets see what happens.

My Diet - Day 6

Happy to say another .5lb lost, have to admit I wasn't expecting that at all. My other half has now lost 9.5 lbs, another 4.5lbs for him and he will have lost his 1st stone.

Saturday 22nd September 2012

Weight: 10st 2.5lb

Weight loss: .5lb

Total weight lost: 5.5lb

Today's planned menu.

Breakfast: Cup of Earl Grey tea, Mint & Curry Omelette

Lunch: Ham & Turkey Crispies

Dinner: Roast Chicken, Oat Bran Cookies

It's my wedding anniversary today and my husband and myself were hoping to get a takeaway in but we have decided to wait until we have reached the Cruise Phase of this diet so that we have a slightly greater choice of what to order.

The weekend is always going to be harder for me, when it comes to the exercise, as I just want to sit down & relax, however I did force myself to go for my, almost 22 minute walk today. It was 1.27 miles and helped me burn 100 calories. I shall do my best to get a walk tomorrow, but if I don't manage it I know I have done extra minutes on other days this week which cover it.

Of the food I have eaten today the oddest one was the mint & curry omelette for breakfast, I am not big on omelettes but to have a curry flavoured one was weird.

I am at the moment planning my menu for next week so I can go shopping tomorrow for any extra foods I need. I am assuming I will still be on the Attack Phase, but if that changes I can always go out any buy some extra "permitted" vegetables.

Lets see what tomorrow brings.

My Diet - Day 5

Well day 5 is here and a small amount of weight loss was noticed again this morning, only .25 lb but its all going in the right direction, so I'm happy, lets face it on any other week I'd be over the moon to lose 2lb, so to lose at least 5lbs in this 1st week is wonderful.

Once again I have experienced no ill effects from this diet & I really do not find it too difficult to stick. I am not, so far, missing chocolate or crisps & definitely not bread.  I think bread makes be feel bloated so recently I cut it out for a couple of weeks and it made a huge difference, so not having bread now is great as I don't feel bloated anymore.  I've also suffered with indigestion the last few weeks, which generally means, for me, that I am having too much fat in my diet, well there has been no sign of that all week so I am really pleased, indigestion/heart burn (don't really know the difference) is horrible.

Friday 21st September 2012

Weight: 10st 3lbs

Weight Loss: .25lb

Total weight lost: 5lbs

My menu for to day is:

Breakfast: Cup of Earl Grey Tea, Low fat yoghurt with Oat Bran

Lunch: Grilled fish (trout) with herbes de provence & black pepper

Dinner: Kebab Meatballs, Chocolate Milkshake

I do love fish so having trout again was a real treat & the meatballs were delicious.

I managed a 20 minute walk just before I started work today, burning 85 calories over 1.09 miles.

The weekend is next, this might be a challenge, oh and one of my clients gave me a box of Malteasers  today. I haven't  opened them but there is my next challenge, must not to be tempted.

My Diet - Day 4

As expected, my weight loss this morning was less than on my other weigh-ins, I still recorded a loss but only 3/4 of a lb, but a loss is a loss. When I stop losing weight for 2 - 3 days it's then time to move onto the next phase of the diet, which includes veggies every other day, so the slowing down of weight loss I suppose is a plus.

I had a pain in my left side last night for a while, which was quite uncomfortable (maybe I poisoned myself) I'm not actually putting it down to the diet though as I've had this pain several times in the past & although not nice I know is nothing serious.

Thursday 20th September 2012

Weight: 10st 3.25lb

Weight loss: .75lb

Total weight lost: 4.75lbs

My menu for today is as follows:

Breakfast: Scrambles Eggs (with herbes de provence & black pepper)

Lunch: Grilled chicken breast (had with my dinner though as was working at lunch time)

Dinner: Chicken Curry

Snack: 2 Pink Cheesecake Cupcakes (made yesterday),  Oat Bran Ricotta Hotcakes (I can't find low fat ricotta so used low fat quark instead).

Had a 25 min walk today around my work place, it was a distance of 1.47 miles and burnt off 130 calories.

The curry was delicious and the hotcakes were lovely too. I didn't have grilled chicken breast in the end but put the extra chicken in the curry.

I'm actually enjoying this diet as I am attempting new meals, which is always a treat when you tend to cook the same things week in week out.

Yet again I have experienced no tiredness, no headaches, no irritability so all is still looking good to progress. Looking forward to the Cruise Stage as you get to eat protein one day then protein & vegetables the next, and this stage lasts until you reach your goal weight.

Until tomorrow then ...

My Diet - Day 3

Well I've lost another 2lbs, I wasn't expecting to see the same drop as the day before when I jumped on the scales this morning. I have to say my OH is also following this diet with me (well he eats what he's given) and he lost 1.5lbs after day 1 & this morning his weight had dropped another 4lbs, slightly more than me over the 2 days but he is much bigger than I am so I think that is to be expected.

Although I am working today I do have some free time so I am having a baking morning. I shall be attempting to make Pink Cheesecake Cupcakes, Muesli Ice Cream this morning and shall be making Turkey Meatballs & Oat Bran Chicken Nuggets when I finish work.

I took my walk early this morning as the weather was so nice and, you never know in this country, it could be raining by this afternoon. The walk lasted 22 minutes and was 1.25 miles burning 100 calories. I walked at a slightly faster pace today, hence burning more calories than yesterday. I log my walks with Runkeeper.

I still feel good, no headaches, no irritability, no tiredness so all looking good for continuing.

Wednesday 19th September 2012

Weight: 10st 4lbs

Weight loss: 2lbs

Total Weight Lost: 4lbs

Menu for today

Breakfast: Cup of Earl Grey Tea, Slices of turkey ham with low fat cream cheese

Lunch: Oat Bran Chicken Nuggets (my intension was to have this for lunch but ended up having it with my dinner instead)

Dinner: Baked Turkey Meatballs, Pink Cheesecake Cupcakes & Museli Ice-Cream

I found the breakfast a bit hard to eat, but I did. I don't usually eat anything like wafer thin ham/turkey & I don't normally eat cheese, really, of any kind. However my weight is dropping so I bit the bullet and just ate it (drinking plenty of water to help me swallow).

The chicken nuggets were very nice and easy to make. The meatballs were nice but I made too many and couldn't eat them all, again reasonably easy to make.

The ice-cream was time consuming to make but was worth it & the cupcakes were easy enough to make and again tasted ok but I probable will not make the cupcakes very often.

Although it's happened 2 days running I am not expecting to lose another 2lb tomorrow morning, would be lovely but am really not expecting it.

So ... until tomorrow :o)

My Diet - day 2

I was pleased with how my first day went and woke up feeling positive that I can keep it up.

I weighed myself this morning and was pleasantly surprised to see my weight had dropped by 2lbs, however I am not getting my hopes up of a trend as this could just be normal fluctuation in weight that I experience most days ... but you can't help but hope this diet is working.

Tuesday 18th September 2012

Weight:
10st 6lb

Weight loss: 2lb

Total weight loss: 2lb

Goal weight: 8st 13lbs

Today's Menu:

Breakfast: Black Earl Grey Tea, Omelet with several slices of ham chopped up.

Lunch: Vanilla Oat Bran Porridge, Cup of black Earl Grey Tea

Dinner: Trout with herbs, Hard Boiled Eggs plus Dukan Mayonaise, Diet Coke

I managed a walk today of 18 mins 19 seconds which was .83 of a mile, burning 67 calories. Although not the full 20mins, I'm happy as I did 14 extra minutes yesterday. I did drink my litre & a half of water yesterday and am on target to do the same today, like I said in my last blog drinking water is not a problem for me, it's mostly all I do drink.

So far I am not experiencing any adverse affects which I have read you may experience with this diet. I do not feel hungry, I am not irritable, I am not tired, in fact I feel perfectly normal. Time will tell if I feel like this by the end of the week.

Apparently my body is now in ketosis and therefore using fat to produce my energy, rather than carbohydrate. If there is low fat in my diet then my body will pull on my fat stores, hence I lose fat and the pounds.

My Diet, Week 1 - Day 1

So at the weekend I decided I really need to do something about my weight as it is slowly but surely creeping up again. I am now just over a stone & a half over weight - argghhh.

My cousins OH recently informed me of a diet she was doing and which seems to be pretty successful so I have decided to give it a go.

On Sunday I worked out a menu for the week and went shopping for food ready to start on Monday 17th September.

This blog may be boring for a lot of you but hopefully it will keep me on the straight and narrow.

The diet I am following is the Dukan Diet.

Basically it's a no carb, low fat diet - sounds pretty restrictive but I am still going to give it a go. I have tried the Atkins diet in the past which was ok and similar but on the Dukan, once you reach the 2nd stage you incorporate vegetables every other day so I am hoping that will make me a bit more successful than with the Atkins.

On the Dukan diet you are encouraged to drink at least a litre & a half of water a day - which is no problem for me as I do anyway. You are also encouraged to have, in the attack phase, 1.5 tbsp of oat bran a day & take 20 minutes of exercise.

So here goes:

Monday 17th September 2012

Weight: 10st 8lbs

Breakfast: Breakfast scramble plus a hot drink (no milk or sugar for me although you can have skimmed milk if you need it).

Lunch: Crispy Ham, Low fat vanilla yoghurt.

Dinner: Roast Chicken (no skin), Cinnamon Oat Bran Pancakes.

I completed a 37 minute walk in Letchworth which was 1.81 miles & supposedly, burnt off 142 calories.

I didn't feel hungry at all throughout the day and the food was all tasty, the cinnamon oat bran pancake was delicious, will definitely have that again. I bought the Oat Bran from Holland & Barrett as well as a packet of sugar free chewing gum for them moments when I feel the need for something sweet. I have to say I couldn't find oat bran in Tesco and was told that most supermarkets don't stock it.

Well my 1st day wasn't bad at all, lets see what day 2 brings ...

At this precise moment team GB have won 34 medals, thats 9 golds, 14 silvers &  11 bronze.

So are our paralympians excelling in the same sports as our able bodied olympians? it certainly seems so. We Brits are incredibly good at cycling, which has so far accumulated 11 of the total medals.

So who needs mentioning, here goes ...

Congratulations to Mark Lee Colbourne who has won a gold and silver in track cycling.

also to Neil Fachie and Barney Storey who have won track cycling tandem gold with a world record.

and to Sarah Storey who has picked up 2 golds in track cycling and broken a world record.

Along with Mark Lee Colbourne's silver in track cycling there have also been silvers for:

Bronze medals have gone to Jody Cundy & Darren Kenny.

Well done so far to all our team GB cyclist.

and well done to Lee Pearson who has picked up a silver in the Mixed Individual Championship Test - Grade Ib.

Ben Quilter has picked up a bronze in the Judo -60kg, well done Ben.
Power lifting has given us a medal as well, well done Zoe Newson on winning bronze in the -40kg class.

We have gained a silver & a bronze in the shooting. Well done to Matthew Skelhon on his silver & well done to James Bevis on his bronze.
In the pool team GB are excelling again where 11 medals so far have been won.
Congratulations to Jonathan Fox on winning gold in the 200m backstroke - S7

Congratulations to Eleanor Simmonds on winning gold, Ellie produced an astonishing swim to win gold in the S6 400m freestyle after smashing her own world record in a time of 5:19.17 to successfully defend her Paralympics title.

Silvers have gone to Stephanie Millward in the 100m backstroke - S9, to Nyree Kindred in the 100m backstroke - S6, to Hannah Russell in the 400m freestyle S12, to Heather Frederiksen in the 400m freestyle S8 & to Aaron Moores in the men's 100m backstroke - S14. Well done to them all.
But ... it hasn't stopped there.

who picked up the bronze. Matthew Whorwood has won bronze in the 400m freestyle - S6

In the time it has taken me to write this 2 more medals were won in the swimming, hopefully there will be more edits to come.

Come on team GB - you're all amazing.
